Festival of Frugality

The Festival of Frugality is being hosted by one of my favorite blogs - the DigeratiLife. It features me post on Car Saving Tips. I don't think of my self as a frugal person but I guess by most peoples definition, I am.

There's a post that caught my eye - Always Ask for a Discount. Often people will think of asking for a discount at hotels, but not other areas. Here's a tip I learned - if you have a business you can get contractor discounts. When you are remodeling a home, for example, you can often get prices below Home Depot or Lowes by going to a local wholesale supply store and buying material as a contractor. For example, I saved about $15oo off of Lowes price on replacement windows I bought for a house I am remodeling.

It's interesting to me as an author of a soon to be released e-book on how to find the lowest cost windows that you would say you saved $1500.

I would respectfully ask if you saved on the price or the cost? Because every window does not do a perfect job of reducing energy bills, it has a cost. I suggest to my readers that they use the NFRC ratings to determine the real cost of a window.

If you discovered that the Best Available Technology reduced your energy bills more significantly than any other, it probably would rate as the lowest cost.

My purpose for writing the book is my deep concern for our dependency on foreign oil and what I perceive to be global warming. We have the technology to help these causes, now all we need is the will and knowledge to be shouted from the roof tops. I hope I haven't offended anyone. More can be found at www.learn-first.com

I was simply talking about the cost Vs the same window at Lowes. This is a house I am going to flip and I don't care about long term energy savings.
