WOW! House rented already!

Just hours after posting my house on Craigslist I got a tenant - from England no less! She's coming to the US to study for her Masters and will be sending me a check for more than the first months rent and deposit. I just need to send her some personal information and once I deposit the check wire her back the balance.

Too bad the education system is so bad in England. Poor Kelly can't write proper grammatical sentences or spell very well for someone with a college education. Maybe she's majoring in Scam 101. I'm sure she'll make a great tenant though!

I KNOW your kidding, right.

(right?)

If you send "Kelly" back a balance, you get what you deserve... for crying out loud. I have often wondered how these people get up in the morning, knowing their job in life is to steal from others. The world would be a better place without them.

Last night I was looking at MLS listings, and I didn't know what to make of things. There were so many houses in foreclosure. They were giving them away. The issue was that they were all trashed. One even said "Enter at your own Risk". One house used to be listed at $120k and interested me, but now a few weeks later it's on at $89k, which was far below the last mortgage on it. Ouch. I think I will just offer $1 and see if i get any response.

This same scam happened to my brothers daughter last fall. She advertised for a roommate and some "girl" from England responded, sent her a check which she tried to deposit so she could wire back some money. Fortunately, the bank teller could tell it was a fraudulent check right away and she was spared the loss.

I was emailed earlier about someone who was interested in seeing my house. I politely emailed back, but didn't actually expect a response. To my surprise, he did email me back (speaking english!) and said he found it listed for sale on zillow.com (been on there all year). He told me a bit about himself, said he didn't know anything about the area, but wanted to know if he could schedule an appointment next month. Since he appeared real, I gave the whole sales pitch song and dance.

Again, I don't really expect anything from it, but you never know. I would not have signed up with that insurance thing if it wasn't for a cold call listing off of craigslist, so things do happen.

At first I thought you were being serious!
I've enjoyed reading your posts.
Will check back to see how your renting goes.
